Is plastic surgery wrong according to Christian standards?

I have thought about getting a breast reduction, but feel guilty for wanting to change my body that God gave me. By anyone's standards my breasts are very large and very heavy. So, it it really isn't about me being vain or having irrational ideas about my body. Should I go through with it and what do you think God would say about it. To be honest, I have no physical pain associated with my breast. They just prevent me from wearing a lot of the latest fashion, make me self conscious (men and women often stare), and they look unattractive to me. When I die, believe me, I am going to ask what was the purpose of giving me such a large chest.

  1. I'm sure they say vanity or pride has bought you a ticket to hell or something... From a medical standpoint (I've sat in on a few reductions), in most cases, people would benefit greater from exercise as opposed to actual surgery. If that doesn't work, surgery is a quick fix, but the side effects can suck. I just hope you don't like having feeling in your nipples, because this could very well end that. Either way, good luck to you!
  2. You gotta do what you gotta do to feel better about yourself. Flesh is flesh and spirit is spirit.
  3. Well, personally I don't consider a breast reduction to be plastic surgery. Go for it, don't live your life in pain, it ain't worth it.
  4. God doesn't have a problem with plastic surgery, especially if it's for health reasons.
  5. That's quite different from getting plastic surgery because you don't think you are beautiful enough. A breast reduction has very little to do with vanity. It has more to do with comfort. A friend of mine had one because she started to have back pain and other problems. Isn't that the same as having surgery to relieve pain in you leg, arm or anywhere else?
  6. Plastic surgery is not wrong, but vanity is. Only you, while praying to God , can figure out for what reason you feel you need the surgery. Is it to improve your health, mental and physical? or to another extreme, are you healthy, but trying to create a perfect image of yourself, to be attractive to others, forgetting what God has given you? This is kind of a blunt answer to the general question. There are may legitimate uses of Plastic Surgery, but also a few sinful ones. I hope you can talk to God, and a counselor , to help you make your choice.
  7. Yes!
  8. Not necessarily. I don't think having it done, especially if it's causing back pain or other problems, is wrong. I'm not sure if the verse that says "as God hath distributed to every man, as the Lord hath called every one, so let him walk " applies here. 1 Corinthians 7:17 Having said that, all surgery is risky. Personally, I would avoid any surgery that is not absolutely necessary.
  9. "Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight." 1 Peter 3:3-4 That's what God would say. He doesn't care how big your breasts are, you are beautiful to him.
  10. If its for your health, then NO it is NOT wrong. Go for it, why live your life with pain like that, when it could be alleviated???????????? http://www.breasthealthonline.org 38J to 38C Feb 2006
