Cosmetic surgery for teens: good or bad idea?

Are parents telling their daughters they aren't pretty enough when they agree to get them breast implants, nose jobs, etc?

  8. They're telling their daughters, that everything can be fixed when you have money... which is sometimes true. But these girls need to figure out that not everything can be fixed at the wave of Mommy and Daddy's hand and that sometimes you just have to deal.. Unless, the surgery is needed, because they are deformed or it causes a health issue, I think all teenagers should wait until they are at least 18...
  9. I think that's stupid. talk about making your kid have self esteem issues... once you let them get a little nip here and a little tuck there theyre going to rely on it for everything. really bad idea( unless it's medically necessary)

  11. It depends. If the surgery is for cosmetic purposes only, I feel this is a huge mistake for a person who is still developing. On the other hand, If the surgery is for reconstructive purposes, birth defect or accident, then by all means it would be necessary and would be a good idea.

  17. Bad, bad, bad, bad, bad. Unless of course it's for medical reasons, otherwise BAD! Can I say it enough? BAD! The media has been showing all these anorexic, beautiful, airbrushed supermodels, and sending out the message that if you're not a rake, unrealistically beautiful, and fake, then you're ugly. It's creating an unrealistic standard of beauty, and it's highly distressing to see perfectly average teens worry that they are too fat and not pretty enough. What a shallow society we live in.

  22. no. i believe that people should be allowed to do what they want to themselves within reason even at a younger age. i think that a requirement of at least 16 would be a good safeguard though.

  25. No, I think they're just giving in to the relentless begging. Personally, I'd wait until they were completely done with puberty before I'd agree to any surgery - they're still growing after all.
  26. I THINK IT'S A BAD IDEA HOWEVER, MANY PARENTS WANT THEIR CHILDREN TO HAVE HIGH SELF ESTEEM SO THEY THINK THEY ARE HELPING THEM BY GETTING THEM THESE SURGERIES. I GUESS MANY TEENS FEEL AND FEAR THE PEER PRESSURE FROM FRIENDS AT SCHOOL AND MANY CAN'T HANDLE IT. AT AGE 16 I HAD A VERY SMALL SIZE CUP AND I WENT THROUGH A LOT IN SCHOOL BUT I HAD A FRIEND THAT HAD LESS THAN I AND SHE WENT THROUGH ALL SORTS OF TORTURE, SHE HAD EVEN CONSIDER SUICIDE. YOUNG KIDS CAN BE SO CRUEL BUT THAT'S HOW SOME ARE. IT'S REALLY AT THE PARENTS DISCRETION. FOR THOSE PARENTS WHO JUST ALLOW THEIR KIDS TO UNDERGO SURGERIES JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE RICH AND THEY CAN AFFORD IT THAT THAT IS TOTALLY ANOTHER THING. I STILL DISAGREE WITH IT REGARDLESS.
