Why is it ok to send a 2yr 10mth old child advertising about erotic toys and cosmetic surgery?

Today my daughter received marketing leaflets from Schmidt Marketing and Promotions limited (and Daily Mirror). It included a leaflet for an erotic clothing/ sex toy catalogue, pharmaceutical advertising, cosmetic surgery info etc. I'm horrified this type of material is being sent out to children!

  1. rofl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! really thats sad lol
  2. no
  3. Sounds like somehow her name and your address ended up on a "sucker list." Here's how we handle that nonsense: we wait until we have a little pile of junk mail, stuff it into one of the envelopes they sent, and put "RETURN TO SENDER". Sometimes we have even paid for a huge parcel of their mail. We never heard from them again :)
  4. I doubt it was actually intended to be sent to a child, as I'm sure that toddlers are not their intended demographic. It sounds as though they have got your daughter's details form somewhere, and were sending out random mailshots, sometimes children get bills for things such as Council tax. I would write a stern letter of complaint to the company, maybe contact the trading standards!
  5. I think you need to ask yourself how they got her details and put a stop to the mailings. Try the mailing preference service and phone the company direct to get her removed from their lists.
  6. Most likely they obtained your child's name off of a customer list that was sold to them by another company. It is highly doubtful that they intentionally sent it to her knowing she was a child. The thing I would be concerned about is how your daughter ended up on their list. I suggest checking her credit report. I know that sounds strange, but it's possible that someone has stolen her identity and signed up for things that you are not aware of and won't be until she is 18. Many thieves are stealing the identities of children because the children don't know until they are grown. It's better to find out now before it becomes a truly big problem. Although identity theft is a possibility, it is unlikely. It is more likely that they received her name from something else, but it's better safe then sorry.
  7. There was a thing on news last year about a 4yr old boy who aparently owed the bank thousands for been overdrawn lol, the bank had made a mistake but they only found out when his mam stormed into the bank itself. So ring them or write a letter just so they no neva to do it again.
  8. i agree with the others that these companies most likely didnt know they were using a childas name and address. i would contact them and ask to be taken off their mailing lists but if you get anything else from them after that i would wrap up a brick and post it to them using their freepost envelope. they should get the message if they have to pay for something like that lol
