What is the christian's stand on cosmetic surgery?

let's say moreso with a child with a facial disfigurement,is that considered a sin to try to improve one's appearance?

  1. I think in the case of a deformity, it is good... But, what can be used for good, has also become something people use to advance their vanity. Elective surgery seems wrong...when there are so many people who have to be operated on each day...with no choice but to undergo the knife....then someone who is just unhappy with crow's feet then has surgery...something seems twisted about that.. Likewise the gastric bypass stuff...do people really exercise and try to lose weight before going to such extremes? I think people will have a lot of explaining to do to God....
  2. Haha, I thought the question said - "What if a christian stands on cosmetic surgery?" I thought it was a bit of an odd question! Dont know, I am an atheist. Although, xians view on most things is that they would rather it didn't happen, but if need so then they will allow it.
  3. I believe that God doesn't make mistakes, meaning there is a reason for the child being born like that, at the same time I believe that God gave surgeons a gift to fix things. Going through life this day in age is hard enough, especially with a disfigurement. I don't think God would condemn anyone for trying to make themselves better, internally or externally. I don't believe that everyone who goes through plastic surgery needs it, but I do believe a child deserves a chance to live as normally as possible!!
  4. I'm an atheist and I think cosmetic surgery purely for enhancement is a bit naff, it's great for disfigured people however but I think anyone should have the option if they really feel they need it, I'd quite like to be a cosmetic surgeon but I'd rather help kids born with hare lips or people who had been in accidents etc than try to perfect ordinary variations in people's noses or whatever.
