What kind of painful after-effects are there from liposuction?

I'm considering liposuction, and I was wanting to know more about the after-effects. Besides the obvious lowering of fat content, is there any pain or soreness? What happens to the area in which they insert the vacuum (any pus, bruising, etc.)? Would it be something I should take an extended period of time off work for? Basically anything important that I should know beforehand would be helpful.
