Could you generate fuel from human fat taken out from liposuction - thus eliminating obesity?

I know it is gross... but is there any way to convert human fat to combustible fuel? I may be the medical student (understanding liposuction)... but I am def. not a chemical engineer.

  1. Yes, yes you can.
  2. there most probably is, but people just havent discovered it yet. let technology do its thing and i'm sure in a couple of years time it will be possible
  3. All I can think of is that spontaneous human combustion thing.... so if people can burn spontaneously I guess there'd be a way to make fuel from their fat.
  4. You are the medical student...
  5. Believe it or not yes! There are some companies going around the world asking for peoples fat, and grease. Then it can be turned into fuel for cars which is completely Eco-Friendly. If a fish came along and ate some of the fuel he would survive.
  6. There are even more advanced ways of solving both the energy crisis as well as the obesity epidemic. Word is that there are now ways of converting body fats into motion. It can even be done in situ, making the step of surgery obsolete. The good thing is that, the more obese the patient, the faster the conversion. The state-of the art technology that enebles us to perform these medical-energitic transformation is the bicycle. It gets you from A to B, while trimming your belly into shape! But without kidding, its probably possible to convert fatty acids (body fats) into long carbon chains. Petroleum essentially is made out of the same thing. Just add pressure and heat... you would get some petroleum like substance. You'd probably have to put in more energy than you would get out of it when processing only small quantities. Woudl be a joke though. Have you seen the Yes-men, with their "Vivoleum" prank? look it up in youtube. Its hilarious.
  7. Biodiesel is made from spent cooking oil. I am sure fat from liposuction could be used as well. A percentage of human fat come from cooking oil anyway. It would be the ultimate in recycling. Now we just need a recycling tax credit to pay for the liposuction.
  8. I love the way you think man...
  9. Hey great thought - I hope so :) they can have all the fat from me they want - what if you could just hook yourself up to your car and it ran off your fat - LOL that would be kinda cool then people could eat all the trans fat they wanted cause ya know it would just be turned into fuel. someoene really needs to figure out how to make lipo more safe and convient - I would buy this car and why not just duel major jeeze
  10. Absolutely yes. Were it not so difficult to harvest this fuel, I am certain that it would be easy to find doners.
  11. we make biodiesel today from animal fat. Animal fat is called tallow
  12. Sure. ,You can make fuel from almost any organic material. However, the economic cycle to make it viable is far from promising. Too few fat farms to harvest, no distribution system, and who wants to pay $1200 a quart?
