I have an open bite, would corrective jaw surgery change my face much?

I'm 14 and my orthodontist said i would have to have jaw surgery to get that perfect smile. Unlike with under and overbites, there doesn't seem to be much info on the web on how it would change your face. would it affect cheekbones, nose, chin? I'm not sure if i need it on both upper and lower jaw or just one. i'm kinda scared that it will ruin my face! thank you for answering.

  1. My wife had a severe underbite as a child and had surgery to fix it. She's smokin' hot now. I've seen pictures of her when she was little (13-14). Not pretty at all. I'm glad her parents made her do it. I'm sure it will improve your smile as well.
  2. If you mean an over bite then the surgery would not effect much of your face, mostly just changes on your bottom jaw and perhaps a little bit on the jaw joint up near your ears, i would still recommend it though as I have seen the positive changes is can do
  3. Hi Every person is different. My brother's wife had jaw surgery done a while ago. And yes it makes you look different and at first it makes you seem a little strange looking but that could be because your use to seeing someone one way and then bam.. they look totally different. She looks fine now and has that perfect smile. Good luck.. get more opinions.
