Will VA hospitals do laser surgery for warts?
My husband (who is a veteran) has been having huge warts grow on his hands and feet for almost 10 years now and has been to multiple doctors and has tried all of the remedies we could find. He actually started to get the warts while he was in the Air Force. The doctors keep on saying that his last resort would be laser surgery for his warts or he will eventually lose his hands and feet (yes, they are that bad). Our insurance won't cover this procedure because they classify it as a "cosmetic problem". We have medical insurance already, so we can't get any Medicaid. Could we get help from a VA hospital? If so, any suggestions on how much it would cost? We live in Michigan and i know there is a VA hospital in Grand Rapids.

- I've got pretty much the same problem with warts. About the only thing you can do is if he has a primary care doctor at the VA hospital, is to have them put in for a consult to dermatology. They will look them over and figure out what needs to be done. If he had been seen for the warts while on active duty, then he might be able to get a compensation rating for them.
- You have to be enrolled at the VA to receive care. They have opened up enrollment for priority 8 veterans (non-service connected). If he isn't enrolled already you need to do that first and establish care. He will be assigned a primary care provider and then they will determine whether or not he needs surgery. I put a link for eligibility and enrollment. If he is not service connected he can still enroll. It is based on his income. Usually there are co-pays and I think right now it is about $40 per visit. You need to check because it is individually accessed and some people with lower incomes the co-pay is not charged. You will need to talk to someone at your nearest VA if you need assistance. If he is service connected at least 10 % for anything then there should not be a problem because 10-20% is priority 3. If he is already enrolled then just schedule an appointment. Note: I feel that I needed to add an additional note that even when he is enrolled at the VA and is fully eligble for care there is no guarantee that they will use laser surgery to remove the warts. He will need to see the doctor and work out a treatment plan. Other methods may be tried. What ever treatment plan he is going through he can have it done at the VA.
- if you really want to remove warts forever then you should know that you can remove warts by surgery, freezing, laser, acid or with cream but warts can reappear again and again because warts appears when your immune system is weak! so you must build up your immune system because your body can get rid of warts by itself if your immune system will be strong! so eat more healthy food, more vitamins and more sport activities! (No smoking, no beer/ale, no booze, no drugs, no junk food, no fast food garbage, no sugary sweet soda's. Get on a good, balanced, healthy diet including plenty of boiled or steamed vegetables. Drink P L E N T Y O F W A T E R , fruit juices & fat free milk. Snack on lots of RAW fruit & veggies. Get up one hour early every morning & take a BRISK 30 minute walk - then - do the same thing again in the evening after dinner. Make sure you eat a good, balanced breakfast daily. You get your energy for the day from your breakfast meal. Get 8 hours sleep each night. Flip your mattress over so it will level out to give you a good night's rest. Slack off too much coffee & tea.) HPV is the virus that causes warts. And HPV virus has many strains. In your case you have HPV virus strain number 2. People can be infected with HPV and never show any symptoms. Others will develop warts. These warts can stay the same size, grow, or go away on their own. It depends on the infected person's immune system. A healthy immune system means your body may be able to suppress the virus and not show symptoms. also you should use some herbal treatment! in that case Wartrol is a good (probably the best) product that gets rid of warts comparatively fast and makes you feel more confident knowing that they wont reappear again! it says that it is designed for Genital Warts but it does not matter because warts are warts and wartrol works by stimulating your immune system to fight the HPV virus that causes the warts. of course it is better if you use full course (5 months - if I remember correctly). It worked and still works for me! I do not know if any pharmacies carry Wartrol but I do know that you should purchase it directly from the manufacturer and read more about the product here http://www.wartrol.com/?aid=749165 good luck!
