How effective is laser surgery on my scar?

i have a big scar on my leg from a big scrape of my leg rock climbing. It took off a layer of skin about 1 inch, so i have noticeable scar tissue there. Will laser surgery make it disappear, how long will it take and if i get laser surgery will it leave a mark for the first days/month?
