  1. hell no because people are already plastic but killing themselves to be pretty. oh yeah, thanx 4 the 2 points.
  2. I think it is already accepted by many people. Disadvantages * In a world where health care cost are skyrocketing do we really want to add to the problem by having surgeries that are not medically necessary? * Patients are putting themselves at risk for infections and other complications of surgery * It is a sign of our society becoming more and more focused on image and not judging people based on character. Advantages * Like any other growing industry cosmetic surgery will increase employment.
  3. I think plastic/cosmetic surgery has many advantages for people who have been disfigured by accidents. However, I do not believe in elective cosmetic surgery (no medical basis for the procedure). When you have plastic surgery you are increasing your body's chance of obtaining an infection (anytime you cut the body open you run this risk) often as an unnecessary risk. There are also complications after the surgery that could cause more harm than good (implant leakage). Sometimes plastic surgery has the opposite effect and makes the individual look worse than they did before. The thing that makes humans so interesting is their diversity in both personality and appearance. However, it seems some members of the population want to look like everyone else, and it's sad there are those who cannot be happy with who they are.
  4. I work with a plastic surgeon, and believe that people have the right to decide for themselves whether cosmetic surgery is something they want. It doesn't matter if other people accept it or not. It is not their business. Advantages of improving one's appearance include an increase in self-esteem. Many people gain confidence when they have a more normal nose, or are not flat-chested, or flatten their belly. We also do a fair amount of cosmetic surgery for people who have lost a lot of weight. Would you deny a person who has lost 200 pounds the right to remove the extra skin that hangs from her abdomen, upper arms or thighs? That person deserves to look good. We also place implants in mastectomy patients, and correct congenital deformities. This surgeon does a lot of facial work for people who have had skin cancer cut off, covering the hole left in the face after such surgery. If you don't like it, don't have it. It really isn't your place, or anyone else's, to judge patients who make this very personal decision.
  5. sure, all competent people have a right to decide that themselves, but the big catch is that word COMPETENT. we've all seen examples of people who by all other estimates are behaving irrationally (michael jackson, anyone?) and certainly should not be having any more cosmetic surgery. or how about that prepubescent girl who wants to have breast augmentation? in some instances, allowing a person to have any more plastic surgery might be akin to giving that drug addict more crack. i don't know where to draw the line, but all i can say is that it's not as simple as just shrugging it off as we should let anyone do what they want.
  6. No, self love and acceptance should be widely accepted.
  7. Well,,,,,too late Plastic surgery IS already, an accepted, supervised, and sanctioned by State Boards in All States of the Union, and in all countries that you can see in the mapa mundi (World Atlas)... The needs for a procedure like plastic surgery, is NOT based on vanity, or change of appearance, but correction of notorious body defects... Plastic surgery, is a very complete Branch of General Surgery, and has a crucial role in repairing tissues in burnt people, people with body monstrosities, correcting monstrous scars, ,,,,implanting freshly cut fingers in accidents... As you see. plastic surgery, is not a matter of acceptance. it is a NEED for that in surgery. It needs no ballots for its existence.. I dont see the disadvantages of plastic surgery, and if you question poses that alternative, I can have the intuition that you are somehow dissatisfied with it...am I wrong? Plastic surgery , is as important as other fields of surgery....lets say for instance, you need an amputated foot re implanted....would you refuse to have it back because you disagree with plastic surgery, or because lets say, your religion forbids it?---would You???...you see?...Plastic surgery is a serious and well established branch of surgery that does not need opinions nor polls to exist..
