Is birthmark laser surgery tax deductible?

I have a birthmark (bluish black) on my whole right side of my face that I have been getting treatment. Health Insurance won't cover anything because they consider this cosmetic surgery. I was reading on tax deduction and it says cosmetic surgery is not tax deductible. I think it is so unfair that they would label this cosmetic surgery. Does anyone know if there is way I can appeal this? It would help if I can use this deduction since the surgeries are not cheap. Seriously try living with it it and they would know why we would want to remove it. You have people stare at you everywhere, growing up being ridicule by your classmates in school and then have stranger stopping you randomly trying to question if someone punched you. Granted I feel blessed that it is not something worse physically but somedays all the staring and questions just get to you. ... So if anyone have an insight please do let me know. Thanks!

  1. Maybe a good makeup base would help.
  2. It is not medically required that it be removed. Removal would be for cosmetic purposes. However, since it causes you mental anguish and possibly depression, you may want to consult a therapist (which would be covered by insurance) and see if they can work up an argument that will be accepted by your insurer that the removal is necessary for your mental health and wellbeing.
  3. Unfortunately, the tax code won't let you deduct it. Keep in mind that even if you could deduct it, the tax code subtracts 7.5% of your AGI before anything is added to schedule A and then 70% of people can't or don't itemize.
  4. sorry for your pain but i dont think that'll be a tax write-off
