- I'm guessing they are against it since most that knock on my door suffer from uncorrected steatopygia.
- liposuction? One dictionary defines it as: “Usually cosmetic surgical procedure in which excess fatty tissue is removed from a specific area of the body, such as the thighs or abdomen, by means of suction. Also called suction lipectomy.” (American Heritage Dictionary) However, does that mean it is a remedy for obesity? The Mayo Clinic on Healthy Weight says that liposuction is cosmetic surgery. It is not a weight-loss plan. Fat cells are sucked out of the body by means of a narrow tube inserted under the skin. Several pounds can be removed in one session. However, “the surgery isn’t a treatment for obesity.” Is it a safe procedure? “People with certain weight-related medical conditions, including diabetes and heart disease, are at increased risk of complications from liposuction.” But it is a personal decision the bible doesn't forbid to do something that can increase our beauty...unless put in danger our life.
- First, we don't have set "rules". We always go by principles we learn from God's Word that shows us what we should or shouldn't do based on how it benefits us. Second, as with anything similar to cosmetic surgery, it's a personal decision. For me personally, I don't see the need for any "enhancement" because natural is always more beautiful. However, there are some with deformities or injuries that have left them disfigured and they decide that it would be a good idea to have plastic surgery.
- All of that, including piercings and tattoos, are allowed. I would say that odd piercings (e.g. nose, lip, tongue, etc.) are frowned upon and tattoos (especially visible ones) are questionable to many. I've seen some that got implants or other plastic surgery, there's nothing particularly wrong about it (other than a massive waste of money--usually;-) or any rules about it, but I suppose if someone showed up with massive implants they could get in trouble of some sort. All things in moderation--except moderation itself
- If it's not specifically mentioned in the bible, it's not allowed probably. And if you need a blood transfusion during the surgery, you are S.O.L.
- True Story: I have 2 younger Witness sisters My youngest sister who is a Witness got ridiculed for having her belly pierced. My second to youngest sister got breast implants. not ridiculed why Because her husband wanted her to have fuller breasts True story Women are property and if the husband is down for it it is truly a godly thing.
- Our faith isn't about what is "allowed" and what isn't. We have free will to choose what we do with our bodies. There are a couple of sisters in our hall that have tattoos, which they got before becoming Witnesses, and no one thinks ill of them. In fact, I would classify one of these sisters as incredibly faithful and a fine example to the congregation. Cosmetic plastic surgery, in some instances, maybe suggested for people who have suffered disfiguring accidents, or could even be deemed medically necessary, such as surgery done for a deviated septum. But botox? Breast enlargement? Wrinkle removal? They speak to a very vain and insecure person who doesn't understand Jehovah's thoughts of growing old gracefully and with dignity. At that point, it is only their own conscience and their relationship with Jehovah that comes into play. What they do is between them and Jehovah. Certainly, there are other scriptural principles involved, but it is up to the individual to fully examine and understand those principles before making a final choice. But, in the end, they are ALLOWED to do whatever they choose to do. Amen. And in answer to one post: Dude, seriously... if your "cosmetic surgery" requires a blood transfusion, you MIGHT want to consult another doctor. Also, read Leviticus 19:28. This is GOD'S personal thoughts and feelings about tattoos. This is part of the Mosaic Law, and Jesus himself observed the law... so the principle must be sound.
