Why are so many asians, especially koreans, getting plastic surgery? Why are they so desperate to look white?

I recently saw a BBC video about Korean plastic surgery and how it's become the plastic surgery capital of Asia with ever more clients flying in from China. And that around 60% of Korean women have had surgery at least once by their 20s. I'm sorry but this statistic sounds a bit sickening to me. Especially when your face is still developing! How come they don't care about looking like everyone else? Aren't they at least a bit concerned about actually being MISTAKEN for the real celebrity their basing their target face on? People already think all asians look alike. Isn't this going to make stereotypes worse? Seems like some readers take offense to the wording. I should correct the term "white", with the term "like people typically found in commercial media". I'm sorry but it didn't make a lick of difference. She looked perfectly fine before and the same after. And with more Chinese acquiring wealth, they're going to waste money on these ridiculous surgeries instead of concentrating on domestic social problems. It's saddening how they have no respect for individuality. It's not only surgery, but it's make-up, heels, getting dolled up just to run to the grocery store seems like the MINIMUM preparation. We know why women go through a lot of trouble to look a certain way. Large eyes, small chin/nose, red lips, larger boobs/hips- signifies fertility that goes back to the days of the cavemen. But if you travel, you'll notice some populations do this more than others (ranges from countries to industries to cities to suburbs). Hollywood has a huge culture of fakeness no doubt, that's the industry and they're on camera all the time. But why would women, who haven't even reached any career yet at such a young age do surgery. Is it a sign of wealth? Are the men there more sexist/objectify women more? What's the social mobility rate of women there? How many people would not do a double take if they see a woman running for president or in a CEO's chair? I guess I'm seeking a Freakonomics type of answer. What are the factors that drive a female population *n What are the factors that drive a female population *not in the film/media industry* to undergo more surgeries than any other population in the world? Comparing apples to apples, it would help to only use countries w/the similar GDP. Maybe include countries w/similar poor rates of gender equality (Japan? India?)

4. In any Asian society, the lighter your skin colour is the more beautiful you are regardless of your features, they can be ugly all that matters is that they're white. I know this cause in India (I'm half Indian) the society accepts only the fair skinned in movies etc and only the fair skinned are known as beautiful. I think this is ridiculous cus I'm brown but I'm gorgeous ! Haha kidding. But Koreans also cut their eyelid so it looks like they have an eyelid idk how to explain it but there's heaps of girls at my school (16 year old Koreans) that have already gone through surgery to get their eyelids done it's gross! 8. This is what pisses me off to the max; people trying to fit into ONE standard of beauty when the term beauty itself is very diverse and has no limits. I don't know whether those statistics are valid or not, but it is quite sad. People regardless of race need to realize that most of the time, thy're fine the way they are. Why sell a left nut to fit into one standard you'd have to completely fake yourself just to get close to even being accepted into it? Especially when it's not in your culture?! Koreans are very beautiful and attractive people; their guys are hot. There's no need for them to get surgery.
