Celebs bad influence on girls?
To what extent do representations of female celebrities provide good role-models for children in contemporary society? 1) How do girls look up to or imitate female stars? 2) Will children begin to believe drugs, rehab, eating disorders, plastic surgery are the 'norm'? For example, are females children look up to such as Jamie-Lynn Spears, Lindsey Lohan and Vanessa Hudgens bad influences for girls? Who or good influences, who are bad influences, and why do you think this? Thanksss.

- I think celebrities are bad influences. that's why I don't obssess over the tv/and movie theaters :D [hate watching tv and movies.]
- All those people listed act so trashy, and they do influence young girls. I say they are not good examples of anything except ___how not to act----.
- Who the hell is Vanessa Hudgens..anyway, yes there is bad and then there is good, and then there are the celebrities who change and get their life in gear, just like any other person. Take a look at how far Angelina Jolie has come along. She went from a drug-addicted wild chic to a responsible mom with hundreds of kids - well almost.
- I think it's already happened. Young girls are dressing like these 'celebrities', they already look up to them, so when they do something that would be considered shocking to most of us, their fans remain loyal and rehab, drugs, teenage pregnancy etc become less 'taboo'.

- The strongest influence for a little girl is her mother or a lady that spends more time with her. It also depends at what age? Little girls (about 4-8) need a model to follow, and they usually pick up somebody that looks very pretty or LOVES her Older girls (9-16) are developing their own personality and choose some one that is more self-confident, well dressed and "cool" than pretty and it is the responsibility of a mother to monitor which kind of preferences the girl has, and guide her to what is good and wrong. - I thnik it depends on the celebrity. A personal idol of mine is Victoria's secret model adriana lima, and she's actually a virgin, she doesn't do drugs or get in trouble, and she seems sweet. There's good and bad in everybody, and you can't totally blame the media. For example, angelina jolie, she's totally sexy, but not slutty, and she helps kids in other countries. That's good, but she had the rough childhood and did drugs, so that's bad. But I'm sure overall she's a good person. And I'm noly 14, but Lindsay, Jamie-Lynn, and Vanessa aren't people I look up to at all. Most people make fun of them (except vanessa) But anyways, nobody really likes the jessica simpson's or Britney Spears's of this era anymore, it's kind of moved on to Blake Lively, Jessica Alba, Megan Fox, and all of them. Actually a lot of celebs have been toning it down lately, Nicole Ritchie for example, after giving birth to her daughter, you haven't seen much of her in the tabloids in nightclubs. Think of all the good idols young girls have to, look at Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood and Hayden Pannetiere. I personally look up to Lauren Conrad too, and she may be a little bit of a spoiled brat, but she's not a bad idol to have, she's not a total party girl. There's a lot more good than bad out there.
- It's not them... there have been non-famous versions of celebrities for years... it's the media. A magazine called a size 2 (pre anorexia) Kate Bosworth "curvy". That is horrible. Kate Bosworth having an eating disorder is not really her fault, Kate Bosworth conforming to the looks she needs to keep her job is not horrible (everyone does it, people learn to speak in public, handle raw foods, cut hair etc to have their jobs)... it's the media, not the actual celebrities.
- im a young girl and i couldnt give a f*** what they do. as far as i care they could go get as much plastic surgery and get themselves as sick as they want and it wouldnt bother me one little bit.
- You missed mentioning miley cyrus.
- What shocked me the other day was on YouTube how many HUNDREDS of videos are "Thinspiration" or "Thinspo" pro-anoraxia videos!!!! Terrifying.......and the person most featured as someone to look up to for "Thinspiration" was Kiera Knightley.......followed by Kate Bosworth and Nicole Richie. Very worrisome....check it out for yourselves.
- celebrities aren't there to be role models. if parents raise their kids to look up to "real" people and not the celebs in the magazines, people would stop complaining about this. honestly, im a 14 y/o girl and i don't look up to celebs... nor am i influenced by them.
