Am I A Complete Moron For Going to Planned Parenthood?
I had contracted genital warts from a sexual assault. I was in denial that I had an STD for a long time....I had tiny red bumps but I just told myself that I had a yeast infection. I even went to a physician once and she told me it was just a simple yeast infection (although she didn't perform a pelvin and just glanced at it.) Then one day I noticed I actually had warts...I went into panic mode and began researching on the internet. The pictures matched exactly what I had. I went into a deep depression, worrying that I may have this forever. I went to my regular Ob/Gyn and he prescribed Aldara cream, which costs $1200. I couldn't afford it so I freaked out. In the spur of the moment I called Planned Parenthood. They fit me in that same day and I had an acid peel. I asked the nurse about risks and she said there were none....She repeatedly explained that no one ever has problems and the acid is completely safe. I ended up having another one. I asked about why my skin was so "hangy" and wrinkly, and why it appeared to lose ellasticity. Again, she said that those changes were only temporay. After the second treatment, it was much worse. My skin on my labia majora hung down 4 inches. I have severe "camel toe" and dread the thought of having to wear a bathing suit. I went to a plastic surgeon and am scheduled for corrective surgery at the end of the month. The Planned Parenthood visits cos tme about $300. The surgery will cost me $5000. I blew so much money on this. I am a full time college student with no income. I feel like a complete moron for ever going to PP. Did I have a serious lapse in judgement...Thinking I could get something for nothing? The nurse was beyond rude, telling me that I probably got the warts before the sexual assualt. (Even though I only had one consnesual partner in my life???) I am depressed. Why was I such a moron? I believe the nurse when she told me there were no side effects. They were so trashy at PP. The medical assistant actually used the word "c u m" when talking to me. It wasn't a regular consent form. It said something to the effect of "I acknowledge that the clinician has explained to me all of the risk(s), complications." It didn't explain what the risks were. Because the nurse had said that there were NO risks, I took her word for it.

- Do you remember reading and signing a consent form before they did the procedure? If there is no consent I believe you can sue them with very good chance to win (but this things are often long) but if you signed I'm not sure if something can be done. I think you should talk to a lawyer because you don't deserve this kind of treatment from this people. Good luck! MMMM I see, you signed the damn paper. I'd still talk to a lawyer, maybe in your college you can have a free attorney or smth ? I'm very sorry, but maybe the last poster is right and this is temporary!
- I have used Planned Parenthood a few times in the past when I didn't have a doctor in the area yet and I have always been extremely uncomfortable there. During an exam my "nurse" freaked out before taking my blood and made me lie down. She kept asking me if I was going to pass out and I had to assure her that I was fine. A few years later I got BC through them but it made me really sick and really depressed. I went in FOUR separate times to get a brand switch but they always told me something different. "We're too busy" or "You don't need us to do anything" or "You have to make a different appointment". It was a mess. Most of their staff is untrained and NOT licensed. A lot of their employees don't even have an associates. I DO NOT recommend planned parenthood. I'm sorry you went through all of that....I'd look into seeing if they could compensate you.
- first off ur not a moron..remeber this for next time your body your temple...no need to be embaressed...I went to planned parenthood..i eneded up loosing over 500ml of blood and lapsed into 2comas..so ur not alone..just be a little more careful next time.. 5000 sounds like the best sorry for aboanding your body present..in time ur gonna feel great...save up work hard...just be glad it didnt stop u from having kids..ill pray4 u
- File a complaint with PP about the nurse, her behavior, and how the treatment turned out. If they don't respond to your liking, speak with a lawyer. This is a rough situation, you did what you had to do. Try to look forward, not back.
- I went to PP for years when I was in school. Although I don't really know why. I had insurance under my parents, but my mother sent me there instead. Anyway, once I got my own insurance, I started going to proper doctors. I would never go back to PP. The care is not very individual there. I felt like another in an assembly line. And I always had to wait ridiculously long for appointments. The ladies were always nice, though, I have to give them credit.
- I am so sorry you had that experience at PP. If your low income they normally don't charge you. If you were sexually assaulted and pressed charges, the police report is all you need for you "payment." I am not sure why you were charged in the first place. I contracted chlamydia when I was young and irresponsible. They gave my exam, meds and follow up exam for about 25 bucks (total). They knew I didn't have the money and that my mom wouldn't understand. If that nurse really said that, make sure you file a complaint with the labor department and file one with the States Auditors office. I am also little confused, If your a college student, don't you get your medical at the college for free? I know when I went to U of Washington, it was part of my tuition. Please don't let this experience give you a bad idea about PP, they help millions of females yearly.
- How do you know it isn't just temporary and won't get any better? You should schedule another visit with your OBGYN before you jump into plastic surgery and if you don't like your doctor, find another one. I don't think you were a moron or trashy for going there, I probably wouldn't, but have never been in the situation to need to. I think I would wait for plastic surgery if you need it until you can actually afford it. I doubt it would really be noticeable in a bathing suit and not being able to wear one is not the end of the world, hello, I have kids and they thanked me with stretch marks!
- you are NOT a moron! i would've thought with a reputation like theirs and such a widespread name they'd be better informed and trustworthy. SUE, no question. forget the consent form -- a legal consultation with a malpractice or personal injury lawyer is FREE and they can tell you if you have a case. and let people know what happened to you so it doesn't happen again! i'm glad now i know not to trust them!
