What do Caucasians think of Asians?

There is an old-fashioned thinking - stuck in my head for a while now - that I cannot seem to remove it from my mind. Prior to any more words, maybe I should explain more about my background. Myself was born in South Korea and I have been living in Canada for 6 years now. One concern that I have never been able to figure out is "what do Caucasian people think of Asian people?" I do have comments and thoughts on what they would be thinking but I doubt that any of my ideas are quite correct. In real life, when people are asked such a question, they would obviously try to be as nice as they could be because that's the reality. I want the truth though. That's why I chose the Internet as means of getting honest answers because people seem to be truthful about what they think when they are not talking to someone face to face, in my opinion at least. To give you an idea of what we (Asians) think of white people, I'll tell you my story. However, don't judge the entire population of Asia based on what I'm about to say though. I'm a human and I'm biased, of course. I don't represent all the people in my race. First of all, living in Asia for 14 years, I have heard of a lot of awful stories of Asians suffering from racism in western countries, especially in the U.S. As a child, I already had an impression that maybe Caucasians don't respect Asians at all and most white folks have the "White Supremacy". However, when I actually got to move to Canada. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Many people were kind and generous. Yet, there were a few times when I was not sure of what they really think of Asians. Also, though many people were treating me like one of them, I did experience some racism from time to time. So, here's my question. What is the very first impression or thought that comes to you when you see an Asian, other than the fact that he/she is Asian? Do you get a stereotype ahead of what they would be like before you even try to find out who they are really or do you sort of treat them as another human being like one of you (Caucasian)? Secondly, I'd like to talk about facial appearance. I have some interesting facts here. One thing that I was shocked to hear was that white people actually think that Asians' slanted eyes are cute and sometimes even attractive. You may or may not agree due to your own preference but I am only telling the true story, no make-ups :) In Asia, Asians prefer not to have slanted eyes. I have seen many white people making fun of Asian eyes and we (Asians) do not enjoy the fact, either. In fact, a lot of Asians get plastic surgery to get their eyes rounder and bigger. Another part of the face is nose. It's another notably known fact that Asians have small noses, which not many Asians are proud of. Then again, I've heard that some white people actually get a plastic surgery to get their noses reduced. I was quite shocked because that's the opposite of what Asians do. So, you might know by now what I'm about ask. First, I'm curious about what white people think of Asian faces, in general, of course. If you try to pick out the hottest or the ugliest one, your answer wouldn't be much helpful for me to learn what white people think of us. One time, I had an impression that white people simply think that Asians are ugly but then I know that's not quite true anymore. Now, finally, my last question is about relationship. Recently, I've seen so many discussions on "Asian Men/White Women". It is already known that white men date any figures that they can have some sexual pleasure out of. Alright, that was a bit mean to say but you get my point :) So I'm not going to ask you about what white men think of Asian women but the opposite of it. I've seen a lot of answers saying "I (white girl) don't mind dating any races", "I find Asian guys attractive", "Races don't matter to me" and so on. Good answers but it still doesn't explain what they "think of" Asian guys. I would like to hear some details, not textbook answers. For example, if you see an Asian guy (mildly attractive) and a white guy (also mildly attractive), who would you be more attracted to and exactly why so? It's obviously personal preference but I would like to hear those "exactly why so" answers, more than "I just like Asian/white people better" If you cannot answer that question because you (girls) don't see a man with their races but rather see them as who they are, what they are capable of, then I guess you're quite something else and you should be. I know that I've asked quite odd questions above. Please excuse me for that but it's really something that I have been curious about, really yearning to find out what people think of those issues. Any comments would be welcomed and appreciated. I know that the questions might sound a bit disturbing to some people. I really don't mean to be a racist or to judge any other races though. I am sincerely interested in learning someone else's view in this world. Just to spice up the discussion a bit, here's a question for white girls (only white). When an Asian guy asks you out, what is your general reaction? Let's say that this situation is like a random guy hitting on you in a public place (i.e. bar, library, street, bus, etc) and that he does somewhat resemble the stereotype of Asian boys: not tall but not short, slanted eyes, Asian accents, and he studies/works in IT, Accounting, or Engineering industry, a.k.a. typical Asian occupations in North America. I suppose that depending on personal taste, the reaction would either be "hm, interesting, something different, maybe I'll give it a try." or "What a dork, another silly Asian." Just let me know your thoughts. For those of you who would like to tell me that I'm being really old-fashioned, ignorant, stereotypical, biased, and more importantly racist, it's okay because I know I am being like that here. In the reality, I am really not and I'm here only to learn from another's view.

Well, I am a white female and when I was younger, I was attracted to Asian men mainly. I'm not sure what it was about them, other than they were a stark contrast to my pale skin and it attracted me. I do remember thinking that all Asians are incredibly smart as a stereotype, which I know is not true now--but let's face it, Asian families are more disciplined. (experiences with boyfriends and their families) The slanted eyes are nice looking to many of us. Some of us are just simply attracted to someone who isn't just like them. Much in the same way men like blondes or brunettes. As for the nose...I can understand. I sold sunglasses for 10 years and none would stay securely on the face because they basically had no bridge to the nose. Sometimes, what you think may be racism is curiosity. For the most part, I don't think twice when I see Asian people unless they are speaking a different language. That gets my attention for a second. The only Asian I ever disliked was one that came into my store with his wife, in front of her while she looked at the floor, he proceeded to ask me to go on a trip to Japan with him. Obviously disgusted, I let him know what I thought about that. He then told me I am not allowed to speak unless he gives me permission. I laughed him out and refused to sell him anything. Other than that, I just see Asians as people with strong family and cultural values.
Throw out generalizations. This is just my personal opinoin. I find most asians to be intelligent, humble, and well disciplined people that the west could learn untold amounts from. I would be proud to have an asian neighbor as they seem to value education and have respect for themselves and others. besides, i love asian women! they are the perfect size for me (my personal preferene as i like "spinners.")
I lost my virginity to an asian guy, dont tar us all with the same brush. You do get some racist ppl, but they get looked down on my everyone. The race scandal in Big brother UK shows that. When I went to Hong Kong , I experienced racism. It happens no matter what country you are in, If I went to India, of course ppl would think I was a "white whore"....asians are JUST as capable of racism, as are Blacks and Chinese and everyone inbetween. Its a human tendancy to hate ppl different from us.You can see this demonstrated time and time again, hatred of Jews, Gays, any group that is not the majority And yes its wrong, but it would be racist and sick of you to say that its only a trait white ppl have. That simply is not the case. And I for one do not look down at all on Asians or any race. I take ppl as I find them, not based on their skin colour. I have watched Bollywood films where the woman who is "bad news" is inevitably white and with blonde hair, the the story she leads the man astray from his true love and acts like a sl***ut and goes out to bars etc and is a woman of "ill repute"....as if all white women are like that.....and I know plenty of asian guys (NOT ALL i must add) who do that, here in the UK, they take Xtc etc etc but pretend to their families the dont, and sleep with white girls. That is here in the UK.

I grew up with Asian people. Some of my best friends were Korean and Japanese. I never felt uncomfortable around Asian people and Asian girls are a huge turn on for me, because they are usually sweet and loving. The only thing I don't like about the Asians is when they try and act black. I was living next door to a bunch of Asian kids who tried to act all hard and it was pure comedy. I'd rather have a bunch of Asian people in my neighborhood then a bunch of ghetto blacks and Puerto Ricans (I'm being racist, sue me, not all are bad, but a good majority bring nothing but trouble). well unfortunately strong stereotypes exist for both asians and whites. our minds are filled with patterns that are very unnatural. every white male I know without exception thinks he has a good chance of having sex with any asian girl he wants. and this possiblity makes asian females appear very sexxy to the white males, even "exotic". this is obvious when ever my white friends throw out false complements at asian females. sometimes even claiming they are better then white females. Asian girls eat it up. unfortunately most white females have never even considered anything romantic or sexual with a asian male. they are simply the cook, the doctor or the phd student. asian males consider themselves beneath (socially) whites and are most often afraid to engage with whites. i have yet to see more then a handful of asian men approach a white female he was attracted to. many fall into the trap of doing what they do better then anyone else, study and ponder academic ideaologies. a library is the second home to many asian men. even efforts to try to socialize fail when most asian males on campus who think they have made white male friends often fail to get invited to social gatherings. most of the socializing between a asian male and whites males are during academic activities. at columbia i have even seen a large number of asian male students spend 30 hours or more a week in the library. the only female contacts consisting mostly of tutoring, and even then the girl would often leave early to attend a party in which the tutor can not follow. sad... Concerning Asian females- sources from CNN, New York Times, Tyra Banks Talk Show and numerous Asian News papers. to "Emalil" below.. ignorance is a terrible thing. And thanks for proving my point. Asian females tend to study hard, but balance it with extensive social activities. Invited to most campus activities and social gatherings. And from the observation of this person, the most likely to also hit up a relationship with the professors as well as her classmates. Outisde of school most asian females are preoccupied with being accpeted into main stream white society to such a extent most (75% in S. Korea) undergo a expensive and pervasive facial surgery to appear white. Again, all without any exception, all the asian girls I know have a secret hate and jealousy towards white girls. Many suffer from this inferiority to such as extent they sleep with as many white males as possible in order to feel accepted. This of course fullfills the fantasy mentioned above. However, they do fullfil a need, many white males who have difficulty finding dates with their own race often find the opening accepting asian female a welcomed blessing. These relationships often lead to marriage. Though according to latest poll just over 76% end up in divorce, which is on par with the american divorce rate (Japanese paper). as for corporate america, the business index shows asian women to be the top money maker among all races of women, even above white females. the same report shows that asian males are among the least hired and promoted in corporate america. i will not conjecture why the white male community would have such a high preference for asian females while at the same time not hiring asian males, I 'll leave that upto the readers. hence, graduation is often the separation point between asian american females and asian american males. if the two shall meet after graduation it is often outside work. the olympics has however shown that asians are by far inferior to no one, a korean male took home golds in swimming... gymnasts are sweeping the medals. etc... hopefully this will be a lesson to the Asians that they neither need to feel inferior to whites or need to copy their appearance or need their acceptance. only after that can asians and white join as equals and have true relationships based on reality. Conclusion - Do not engulf yourself in the American/European media, including magazines. You are sure to fall into a paradigm which you will not be happy in. Anyone who says they are not racist is not only racist but unaware of it. Anyone who has grown up watching hollywood is racist. Its best we admit it and try to avoid thoughts and actions which are detrimental to society then pretend we are miss/mr goody two shoes.

I am an Asian woman but very traditional and have never ever been the kind of Asian women the Answerer " Absolute" described above. In fact, I think such kind of Asian women are in very small numbers, if there are any. Can I tell you how my boyfriend of 3 years, an European, who lives in Europe, thinks about Asian men ? He said in his impression, Asian men are very smart, intelligent and hard working but very quiet and don't socialize with local people. Half upset and half joking when seeing me using a calculator doing the maths, he said Asians are supposed to be maths genius. In his country, Italy, Asian students are always on top of the class, both new immigrants and Italy born Asians. He said many Europeans subconciously are worried about the ever-growing of Asian powers. About appearance, in his eyes, most Asian guys are nice looking.
white men view asian women as the most exotic and beautiful females. white women are envious of asian women because we do better in school and the white men like us more. I ve always been a favorite of my white male teachers since 6th grade. whites view asian guys as geeks. white girls would never date a asian guy because they are geeks. i like white guys that look like celebrities, drives me crazy. titanic is one of my favorite movies. i can watch that movie almost all day. I looove white movies. to absolute and its none of your business if asian girls get plastic surgery. there is nothing wrong with plastic surgery. furthermore, this is 2008, girls can go out and have sex just as much as guys. if we choose to live a life of a modern women, it is our choice. i have just as many asian boyfriends as I do white boyfriends so I am not racist. i am dating white guys but i plan on marrying a asian man, so I am not racist.
