Do you think it's reasonable for a doctor to send home a patient because they got a phone call from the bank?

I went to the GYN today for an annual. I had some concerns and they knew it was important. I waited in the lobby for 30 minutes. Then the receptionist said "hey, sorry but she's got a phone call and said she isn't going to see you". I was furious. She's doing all kinds of facials and liposuction in there nowdays. The receptionist later told me that the phone call she got was from the bank. Is that a reason to cancel a medical exam, to take a phone call from the bank? Would you be mad?

  1. I would send the doctor a bill for my mileage to and from the appointment along with my time at my regular rate I make at work. Doctors have to realize that we take time to be there on time and they can't waste our time for their convenience.
  2. I would have been upset .She could have took the call and then took you in.
  3. I would contact the American Medical Association (AMA) and report this doctor's behavior.
  4. It was quite unthinking of the doctor to cancel on you since you clearly showed up on time. At the same time, do understand that the phone call might have been about something super important that could not be put off. Even so, the doc should still have made time to see you.
  5. I would be angry. I remember one time going in for my annual oil change and sitting in the little cold room wearing the paper robe for about 45 minutes and still no doctor. Finally, a nurse popped her head in and said "Are you still here" I asked her just where she thought I would have gone in such stunning attire and she responded that the doctor had a medical emergency and had gone to the hospital to do a C-section. I was grumbly, but I got dressed and rescheduled my appointment. I just could not compete with an emergency C-section. YOU, on the other hand, have every right to be angry!
  6. Change your doctor, you have no reason to take crap like that from any doctor.
  7. i'd be mad. i'd absolutely find a new doctor. it was unprofessional of the doctor and unprofessional for the receptionist to tell you the personal business of the doctor.
