Has anyone out there had laser surgery for broken cappillaries on their face?
I am thinking of having laser surgery to remove some broken cappilaries on my face. Just wondering if it is painful-and if there is bruising, etc after the surgery. Also wondering about being able to return to work soon after the surgery, for example within the next day or two. Thanks to anyone who can help! Thanks to everyone for your in-put. Everyone was so helpful! I plan on going for it!

- Sorry, no i haven't.
- This really depends on what type of therapy you intend to have for your broken capillaries, if they are due to rosacea (or just sun damage / age), and how many broken capillaries you want to have treated. Typically, the best treatment for broken capillaries is now PDL -- pulse dye laser. It's not "surgery". It's just a laser treatment. It is somewhat uncomfortable, but it's very temporary -- somewhat like being popped with a rubber band where you are being treated. So, how much it hurts depends on how much of your face is being treated. A pain-relieving cream is applied to the face before treatment. If your broken capillaries are due to rosacea, a larger area may need to be treated in order to achieve a uniform look. If you only have some isolated broken capillaries, saline injections may be a better option -- and cheaper. Saline solution is injected directly into the spider vein, and it collapses. However, this again depends on your individual case. You should be able to return to work -- but you may have some significant redness and sensitivity. So, whether you want to return to work will be a personal choice (and will depend on the type of work you do). There should not be any bruising unless your broken capillaries are very extensive, which requires more aggressive therapy (a stronger laser setting).
- I'll get back to u on that one.
- dont take laser surgery, it is very bad to your skin.
- I would call it a laser *treatment* rather than surgery. I've had several done, both on my face and my legs. It takes more than one treatment for best results. Usually lasers are more efficient on the face than on the legs, but I'm weird, so it was the opposite for me. I had some results on my face too, but not as spectacular. It's also more efficient on fair skin than dark, but then again, pale people tend to be more prone to dilated capillaries anyhow. I found it uncomfortable, but not unbearably painful. It does make my eyes water (not because I'm crying) when she's working on my nose. She didn't use a numbing cream beforehand, but there was cold air blowing on my face attached to the laser to cool my skin down. Bruising can depend both on the size of the capillaries and the type of laser (which is why you need to ask someone at the clinic where you're getting it done). I was able to return to work the next day, and in fact, my face looked normal within hours. Healing takes longer on legs. I made sure to get my legs done during the winter, so they would be clear by spring. :O) P.S. Andrew D has some good advice too, but I do disagree about saline injection for facial capillaries. That type of treatment is excellent on legs, but not for the smaller capillaries that are found on the face. Unless you have unusually large, dilated capillaries on your face, perhaps?
- laser treatment hurts like hell, well it depends what kind of laser treatment. I had 3 different kind of laser treatment on tattoo removeal and it doesnt even work good. I had 8 laser treatment and it only had faded away but it hasnt went away complenty and i spend over $2,000 on it and Ill tell you it is not worth it. What i suggest you to do is make a appt and ask your doctor alot of question and get alot of information on it and ask your doctor what kind of laser they have.. Good luck!
- I had laser treatment to two small areas of my face. Like Andrew said, it feels like a rubberband snapping on your skin. I found it more startling than painful, it made me jump. It was effective. I was back at work next day. My best friend had the saline injection to a small capillary below her nostril and it left a huge scar that she is really upset about. I don't know why a small needle injection left a hole the way it did :/ good luck
- Yes, I have. I STRONGLY suggest you dont get surgery there are many risks and IT IS PAINFUL especially afterwards. There is no use in getting this surgery you can live without it. THere isn't really much bruising but the pain was killing me so bad I didn't go back to work for 2 days or so. Good luck!! And you should definitely be asking a doctor these questions to get more thorough answers. =)
- I recently asked the same question but deleted it when I saw your post! I understand that the treatment IS effective, using a laser designed to specifically target broken capillaries on the face (which are relatively small and superficial) I imagine that the small amount of discomfort would be worth it to not have people constantly asking if you are sunburned, having a hot flush or have drunk one too many! It seems that one treatment may be enough, with a follow up 6 weeks later if there are remaining capillaries. The information I read said that it is normal to have swelling and redness following treatment which can last several days, normally this is worse on day 2 or 3 after treatment. Ice packs are advised. It then takes 6 weeks to see the full effects of the treatment. Bruising is rare but possible. I know one women who has had laser and it didn't make the capillaries go for ever. She had to go back 18 months later for another round, which fixed them again. They also advise that you always wear sunblock on your face after laser treatment as the skin is more sensitive. I am currently using a green tinted concealer under a light foundation to even out my skin tone, it works ok but I hate the hassle of it and the feel of it on my skin, in my experience it's worth spending the extra $$ on decent make up and taking time to ask someone knowledgeable how to apply it!. I'd say go for it! I am going to, it's certainly getting more noticeable as I get older and alcohol and extremes in temperature/ increased stress make the redness more noticeable. If you are in Australia I know that a medicare rebate is available for this treatment as it effects your quality of life (depending on the extent of the problem) See your GP! One last tip...I have spent $$$$ on topical creams and potions that just don't seem to work, don't go there unless you just try simply cutting caffeine, alcohol etc and using aloe Vera and healthy living! :-) Best of luck!
- OUCH!!! way way way too painful unless you have so much excess hair or veins that are just too unsightly that keep you from being in public!! Im serious. Childbirth was the next painful thing to me and i can bear a LOT of pain....ask my nurses! lol
