Continuing wear of contacts with dry eye: will i still be able to get laser surgery in the future?

I was told that i have mild dry eye.. But was wondering, if i wear my contacts a lot, will it just get worse and worse so in the end i won't be able to get laser surgery? Should i limit the amount of time i wear them, or will this not help? I plan on getting laser surgery in about 2 years when my prescription has stopped changing.

  1. hmm. duno.
  2. I would say you will be fine as long as you use rewetting drops to keep your eyes lubricated. There is no way of knowing if you are even a candidate for LASIK until you have seen an ophthalmologist for a LASIK consultation. There are many factors that contribute to a person becoming a candidate for LASIK such as cornea thickness and the amount of near or farsightedness. I do not think continuing wearing your contacts will change that much unless your dry eye is so bad that the contacts really irritate or scratch your cornea. You say that your eyes are mildly dry...so lubricating drops should work fine. I would definitely speak to your doctor about this, though.
